WEDDING REQUIREMENTS

Indonesia will agree to marry any couple who hold one of the 5 religions recognized by this country: Christian (Protestant & Catholic), Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist, the couple should be in the same religious belief. The marriage should be registered to the district Civil Registrar & the wedding ceremony must be performed under the religious ritual.

The Indonesian authorities require all foreigners planning to marry in Indonesia to obtain a "Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage" (a letter of no objection to getting married in Indonesia) from their Consulate or Embassy representative in Indonesia before the wedding.

In order to issue the above certificate to the consulate, each couple must call personally to their consulate to swear an oath that they will be able to marry. They must bring along with them the required documents. Once the oath has been taken, the Certificate of No Impediment will be issued and handed over immediately.

Particularly for British and Northern Ireland citizens; as there is no British Consular represented on Bali; it is necessary for British and Northern Ireland citizens to plan a stopover itinerary to Jakarta to visit the British Embassy or to the Honorary British Consul in Surabaya, East Java, in order to obtain the Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage. A trip to Bali-Surabaya-Bali can be done in one working day. We must however make an advance appointment for the Honorary Consul in Surabaya and would therefore require arrival/departure flight schedules. Approximate Time required for issue : 2 hours.

The following documents (original) are required for application to the Civil Registrar and Minister :

  • Photocopy of Birth Certificates
  • Photocopy of Passports in details
  • Full names, religion/faith (such as baptism certificates), occupation & domicile of both parties
  • Written parental consent (for person under the age of 21)
  • Photocopy of Divorce or Death Certificate of former spouse (where relevant)
  • Full names, complete addresses, professions of the witnesses (2 witnesses are required)
  • A letter signed by both parties certifying that their marriage is based on a mutual agreement
  • 6 pieces of black & white photographs (6 x 4 cm) of couple in same photo (head & shoulders only, side by side, looking straight ahead). (Make them as good as possible because it will be attached to the wedding certificates.)

The requirements for each nationalities differs, therefore it is important that we are advised about both of your nationalities (bride & groom).

The documentation/photographs may be sent by registered airmail or alternatively, you may fax the document copies to us and just mail the photographs. Immediately we receive the document copies and completed booking forms, we will be in a position to confirm the date, time, and place of the wedding ceremony. The photos could be sent later.

If the documentation are completed 14 days before the wedding ceremony date, you could come at least 2 days before the wedding as we have arranged all the necessary details for you.
